Gordie Murphy came of age in the shadow of the active Mt. St. Helens volcano. He attended school in Toutle, WA and excelled in many sports, including football (led state in tackles), basketball, state champs in both track and baseball. He graduated from Lower Columbia College as student body president, but was more well-known as the DJ with the electrifying dances.
During summers Gordie fought wildland fires to pay for college and one winter, short on cash, he was hired on as a crab fisherman aboard the Kiska Sea in the Bering Sea. Yes, “the most dangerous job in the world” of The Deadliest Catch TV fame. What was he thinking? After the crab season he was offered a full share but said no. He ran, not walked, back to college at Central Washington with a renewed dedication. A year later, he graduated Cum Laude with a business degree, moved to Las Vegas and joined his uncle in a marketing firm with some Caribbean travel as a benefit (warmer than Alaska). He was also given the nickname “Macgyver” for his creative ideas and ingenuity.
During this time period, he co-founded TeachingMadeEasier.com, utilizing software technologies to help elementary school teachers maximize their lesson planning time, while kids can learn using fun activities. 25,000 teachers in all 50 states and over 25 countries have used this innovative software to date.
